TEDKNA

The Local Union of Municipalities and Communities of Attica (T.E.D.K.N.A.)
is a non profit making organisation member of the Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE) constituted by 122 local authorities (102 municipalities and 20 communities) within the boundaries of the Attica region and the islands of the Argo-Saronic Gulf. TEDKNA is an exclusively political, coordinating and supporting structure of the Municipalities and Communities of the Prefecture of Attica. In order to function in the best efficient way, thematic Committees have been created which are constituted by members of the Board of Directors, Mayors, town counselors, Presidents’ of Communities. The Union also keeps a close relation with the Ministry of the Interior and other competent Ministries by developing initiatives, studies and interventions relative to subjects as local and regional development and in general the institutional framework of local government. 

EU ACTIVITIES

The majority of the municipalities belonging to T.E.D.K.N.A have implemented E.U. projects in the field of social policy, transnational cooperation, culture, environment, research and innovation under the initiatives EQUAL, Interreg IIIB, Youth in Action, Information Society, and Intelligent Energy etc.
A short list of implemented projects where TEDKNA has participated as project partner is given below:
ARI-ACT: Information Society for the Quality of life in the Region of Attica through actions of e-democracy (2003-2006 Information Society) 
DEEP: Promoting opportunities for increasing energy efficiency in the public buildings' sector. (INTELLIGENT ENERGY)
OPEN DOOR: Promotion of equal opportunities for minorities. (YOUTH IN ACTION)
ANTICIPATION: Promotion of IT technologies in SMEs (ADAPT)
MAGAP II: Mainstreaming of gender in public administrations – promotion of the participation of women in public administration. (EQUALITY FOR WOMEN AND MEN)
ODISSEIA Operational Development Integrated Strategic Scheme of Employment in Attica funded by the ESF, promoting the equality of the sexes, integrating vulnerable social groups, immigrants and refugees (art. 6 of ESF – Local Employment Strategies and Innovation-)   
MEDINS “Identity is Future: The Mediterranean Intangible Space”: Promotion of cultural heritage in the Mediterranean (Medocc - Interreg IIIB).

In 2009, TEDKNA has been working actively for the preparation and submission of European projects. More precisely, TEDKNA has submitted 3 projects, FP7 Regions of Knowledge (Re-use of water and treatment of wastewater), MED (treatment of wastewater in the Med region), Intelligent Energy (Promotion and technical support of the Covenant of Mayors for sustainable energy).

At last, TEDKNA is also participating in the ERLAI network (European Regional and Local authorities on Asylum and Immigration), the ELISAN network (European Social inclusion & social action) and the GMO-free network.
